EBOOK. BOOK 1 OF THE HOLIDAY HOUSE-SITTER MYSTERIES. PREORDER NOW!

Christmas cheer, cookie chaos … and a killer on the loose.

Christmas in Misty Pines goes from merry to murderous when house-sitter Ellie Prescott becomes the prime suspect in the death of the town’s former bakery owner. All because Ellie baked the same signature cookies that Marian was famous for—and someone thinks that’s motive enough.

Stuck in a festive mess, Ellie juggles caring for her mischievous toy poodle, Toffee, and Maybelle, the prima donna Ragdoll cat who rules the house she’s sitting. With gossip spreading faster than cinnamon sugar, Ellie turns to her best friend Kayleigh—and a charming local carpenter who seems determined to help her clear her name.

But when Ellie’s disapproving daughter arrives tensions hit boiling point and solving a murder becomes even trickier.

To prove her innocence, Ellie must untangle a tinsel-twisted web of secrets, grudges, and holiday rivalries… before the real killer strikes again.

A warm, witty Christmas cozy perfect for fans of small towns, festive chaos, and sleuths who refuse to let a little murder ruin the holidays.

Kayleigh pushed open the door, stamping snow from her boots. “You’re really back! Thank heavens. I was worried you’d spend Christmas alone in Portland eating boxed chocolates and watching murder mysteries again.”
Ellie snorted. “This year it’ll be homemade chocolates and maybe a murder mystery book instead.”
“Progress.” Kayleigh sniffed the air and sighed. “Oh, you’re baking already. Bless you. I told everyone Misty Pines hadn’t smelled right since you left.”
“I bet that went down like a burnt custard.” Ellie laughed. “Though you should tell me all about the Cookie Trail again. The radio made it sound like the Super Bowl of baked goods.”
“It is. And guess who’s already grumbling about competition?” Kayleigh lowered her voice dramatically. “Marian Devereux. She doesn’t like newcomers. Claims she owns Christmas in this town.”
Ellie raised an eyebrow. “She can’t own Christmas.”
“Tell that to her and the five-foot nutcracker army she had made. But don’t worry—you’ll win her over. Everyone loves your baking.”
“Everyone except the woman I haven’t met yet.”
“That’s right, you haven’t. She was away last time you were in town.” Kayleigh’s frown turned into a huge grin. “This will be fun. You must come to the meeting tomorrow night at the community hall to discuss the trail. Bring samples.”
Ellie blinked. “Samples of what?”
“Whatever wins people over. Maybe those cookies you’re hiding from me.”
Biscuit barked as if seconding the request. Kayleigh bent to pat him. “See? Even Biscuit agrees.”
Ellie laughed, sliding the tray of cooked gingerbread men onto a cooling rack. Outside, snow still fell in lazy spirals, the lake glowing faintly beyond the pines. It was peaceful, simple, perfect.
For once, she thought, Christmas might actually be kind.
But as Biscuit growled softly at the window again—ears perked toward the dark trees beyond—Ellie frowned. Probably just the wind.
Probably.
